Hashing

Nostradamus uses Secure Hashing Algorithm 256 (SHA256), the same cryptography that secures many cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin.

SHA-256 is used in some of the most popular authentication and encryption protocols, including SSL, TLS, IPsec, SSH, and PGP. In Unix and Linux, SHA-256 is used for secure password hashing.

is not an encryption algorithm but rather a cryptographic hash function

SHA256 is what's known as a one-way hashing function. Hashes can be created but not reversed (without brute forcing). They’re one-way functions.
